Bolt Works
Previously known as Cow Green
About
Bolt Works is Halifax's first purpose-built rental community, on a brownfield site off Cow Green that had sat empty since an unsafe multi-storey car park was demolished in 2016. Placefirst developed, owns and manages the £21m scheme, which delivers 122 one- and two-bedroom apartments. It is the operator's most sustainable project to date, combining a thermally efficient envelope with photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to hold running costs down for residents. Homes come furnished and pet-friendly, with secure entry, lifts and bike storage. Funding came from Placefirst with support from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Brownfield Housing Fund and a Greater Manchester Pension Fund loan.
